St Beghians’ Day 2022
After two years’ enforced absence through the covid epidemic, June 2022 saw the resumption of St Beghians’ Day at the school. In the morning, tours of the school were provided by the Headmaster before the Society’s AGM at 11.00 am. This meeting included an address by the Head, Robin Silk, who reviewed the school’s progress so far and answered a series of questions from OSBs regarding its future.

The full Minutes of the AGM will appear in the January Bulletin as usual. There followed a Chapel service led by the Rev. Canon Jim Baker and his wife, the Rev. Anne Baker, ably assisted by George Robson (FN 57-64) on the organ. A current student of the school read one of the lessons. Lunch was then taken in the Foundation. After many years without an afternoon’s sporting event, it was a pleasure to witness a cricket match again on The Crease, where an OSB XI met the Headmaster’s XI. The weather was reasonably kind and the match, which the OSBs won, was thoroughly enjoyed by all. At the same time, Fives was being played during the afternoon. A talk by the Head followed by refreshments in the Foundation rounded off the day’s events. The names of those who signified their attendance on the day or in advance can be found here, along with a list of apologies that were received here.
In the evening the Society and the school had arranged a Black Tie Dinner in the Foundation with Stuart Lancaster as the Guest Speaker. Over 100 people attended and enjoyed an excellent meal with a raffle, entertainment, live music and a disco, with dancing and reminiscing continuing into the early hours of Sunday morning. Many people remarked on the success of the day and the pleasant atmosphere which had been generated.
